Thermocouple Wire

The thermocouple wire is the metal or alloy wire used for forming the two hot electrodes of thermocouple or compensating cable. Produced according to the IEC or American standard, it has high quality with high measuring accuracy, fast thermal response, high mechanical strength, long service lifetime and wide temperature measuring range of -200℃ to 1300℃.

1. Thermocouple level (high temperature level). This type of thermocouple wire is mainly suitable for the thermocouples of type K, E, J, T, N and L as well as for other high temperature detection instrument, temperature sensor, etc.
2. Conducting wire level (low temperature level). The product is appropriate for compensating cable and extension wire of various thermocouples with the type of S, R, B, K, E, J, T, N and L, heating cable, control cable as well as other small scale temperature sensor.

Product Selection
1. Customers can choose appropriate thermocouple in accordance with the medium to be tested as well as the actual testing and using temperature. They can refer to our specification table for model and temperature.

Recommended Selection
a. K type, can test medium with the temperature ranging from -200℃ to 1300℃. The temperature of long time and short time using is 1000℃ and 1200℃ respectively. Marked with low price, the K type thermocouple is used very commonly.
b. N type, has good long term stability, short-term thermal cycle reproducibility as well as excellent resistance to nuclear radiation and low temperature. It shows strong temperature regulating antioxidant capacity under the temperature of 1300℃. In addition, within the range of 400℃ to 1300℃, The N type thermocouple has better linearity of thermoelectric property than the K type thermocouple.
c. E type, has the largest thermal electromotive force, namely the highest sensitivity in the frequently used thermocouples. It is often chosen for use in the condition of requiring high sensitivity, low thermal conductivity and allowing high resistance.
2. The model of the thermocouple must be the same with the model of thermocouple wire. For example, the K type thermocouple should be matched with the K type thermocouple wire.
3. The thermocouple must be fitted with the thermocouple extension wire or compensating cable of the same model. For more detailed information, please refer to our web page of Compensating Cable.

Heterogeneity Problem
During the practical use of thermocouple, the heterogeneity of the thermocouple wire would affect the normal measuring result of the thermocouple and also have influence on the service lifetime of the thermocouple directly.

Main Reasons
1. Product itself has the problem of heterogeneity.
a. The material is smelted by using low grade or no using vacuum furnace at all, which would result in too much impurity in the material and unstable performance.
b. The smelting engineer is not well trained, leading to that the material cannot get to the expected purity and uniformity.
c. The following processes involving drawing and annealing is completed under low technical level. The material cannot be processed and tested to ensure stable performance.

2. Heterogeneity comes out after the product being used.
a. After serving for a period of time, the qualified thermocouple wire would generate distortion and lose the homogeneity characteristics, especially after being processed and bent repeatedly. Additionally, the thermocouple staying in the high temperature condition for a long time would also lead to heterogeneity resulting from the deterioration.
b. When used in high temperature environment such as in boiler, the thermocouple comes out with heterogeneity problem easily. It means that the thermocouple is unqualified and cannot be applied for field use. Then, the testing should be conducted again or other thermocouple adapting to the environment should be considered for use.
